About the Property Revaluation…

Mayor Allen and the Borough Council are very much aware of the issues facing our taxpayers and homeowners, all of whom are struggling under an inherently unfair New Jersey property tax system in very uncertain economic times. The property revaluation is a measure the state and county requires to be taken to ensure everyone is paying their fair share of taxes - nothing more, nothing less.  Its objective is not to raise additional taxes, but to distribute the existing tax levy fairly.

The Mayor and Borough Council desire that every property taxpayer become knowledgeable with this process and are gratified that so many took the time to come to our recent meeting on this subject.  We regret that we could not accommodate everyone at that meeting. Be assured that the Borough will continue to take measures to get the word out.

Please note that there is information currently available through the following sources:

1. Call the revaluation company (Appraisal Systems, Inc.) directly at 973-285-9940 during regular business hours.

2. Call our Tax Assessor’s office at 908-769-2906.  They are generally available 9:00 AM to 12:00 Noon, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and 12:30 PM – 3:30 PM Wednesdays.  You can also leave a message 24 hours a day.

3.  Periodically check the Borough’s website at www.northplainfield.org and look under “Latest News” for information on the Revaluation.  Currently posted is the letter and brochure that went out to all property owners prior to the commencement of inspections.

4. Visit Appraisal Systems, Inc.’s website at www.asinj.com for general information and a PowerPoint presentation about the revaluation process.

5. Call Mayor Allen at 908-769-2902 to arrange a meeting or speak with her by telephone.  She would be glad to provide information on measures being taken to hold the line on taxes and would appreciate your ideas and suggestions.

Guidelines for Proper Disposal of Household Medication

Over the counter and prescription medications should not be disposed down the drain because waste-water treatment facilities are not designed to remove pharmaceutical compounds and they may end up in your local waterways, and may eventually be found in drinking water.
