North Plainfield's 2007 Street Fair It is time to get ready for our 2007 Street Fair and we would like to invite you to participate!  The Fair will be held on Saturday, June 9, 2007, from noon until 5pm.  The Mayor’s Special Events Committee sponsors the Street Fair, which is an annual event.  The Fair draws thousands of people from throughout Central New Jersey for an afternoon of games, shopping, food and fun.  We also have the annual North Plainfield Lions Club Chili Cookoff Competition joining us again this year to help make for a terrific, delicious day!  Attached you will find information on the Fair and an application.  If you participated in the past, we thank you very much for your support and look forward to you joining us again this year.  If you are new please join us and ‘welcome aboard’!  We request that you pass this package on to your successor if you are no longer responsible for your organization’s involvement. We do have a deadline shown on the application; however, we would appreciate receiving your application as soon as possible.  This will help you in obtaining a spot of your choice; just as in previous years we will be using ‘first come, first serve’ when making location assignments.  We ask that you provide us with a complete listing of the products and services you plan to offer.  Any change in this list must be reported to us before Fair Day.  Your cooperation is essentialClick here for further information Exhibitor Information & Rules / Street Fair Application

North Plainfield Police Department will be out in force against DWI this Holiday Weekend Chief William G. Parenti announced the North Plainfield Police would be out looking for Drunk Drivers this holiday weekend.  The holiday season is traditionally a time of social gatherings, which often include alcohol.  New Years Eve carries an added risk of Driving While Intoxicated.  Our goal is to arrest motorists who choose to drive while impaired by drugs or alcohol. ...read more

Community Health and Information Fair on November 14th The community policing unit of the North Plainfield Police Department in conjunction with the North Plainfield Adult Community School, and the Somerset County Health Department, will be sponsoring a community health and information fair on Tuesday, November 14th, from 6:00pm to 9:00 pm in the North Plainfield Middle School Gym, located at 34 Wilson Avenue in North Plainfield.  The fair will have bilingual representatives present from a host of community agencies; public safety agencies; health agencies; and area businesses.  Activities and prizes for children will be provided as well as light refreshments.  All residents are welcomed and encouraged to attend.  

Rabies Clinic Saturday November 4th A Rabies Clinic will be held at the North Plainfield Borough firehouse Saturday November 4th. North Plainfield residents can attend any of the 2006 Rabies Clinics and have their pets vaccinated at no charge.

10th Annual Haunting of Vermeule & Grounds to be held October 27th and 28th Come and Experience the TERROR of Halloween at the Vermeule Mansion and Community Center. The Tenth Annual Haunting of Vermeule & Grounds will be held at 614 Greenbrook Road, North Plainfield on Friday October 27th and Saturday the 28th. Come also to see the MAZE beneath the Community Center. Halloween treats and Haunted House T-shirts will be on sale! Wear your costume at the Kiddie Haunting and be part of the fun! September is National Preparedness Month The Somerset County Department of Health, in conjunction with local grocery stores, is promoting family emergency preparedness displays to include items such as water, flashlights, batteries, canned goods and non-perishable items. 2006 Property Tax Bills Delayed – Expected to Arrive by Labor Day: Borough Successful in obtaining $400,000 in Extraordinary Aid! 2006 Tax bills were delayed due to state Extraordinary Aid determination – the Borough recently received $400,000 from the state which has been applied directly to local Property Tax relief in the budget recently adopted by the Borough Council.   Due to the extended period of time necessary for the state to determine the amount of Extraordinary Aid, tax bills will be due after the customary August 1st deadline.  The 3rd Quarter grace period will be extended to September 29th as per Council Resolution, but please note that payments received after this date will be assessed interest back to August 1st as per state law. Tax bills should be received by property owners by Labor Day – Please call the Tax Collector’s Office (908-769-2908) if they are not received by September 5.   Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Adult and Teen Summer Reading Club The Adult and Teen Summer Reading Club at the North Plainfield Memorial Library will begin on Monday, June 19, 2006.  A folder of information with all the details will be available for pick up at the library when the program begins.  Spectacular prizes will be awarded in a drawing that will take place at the end of the program in September. Local Wal-mart makes donation to North Plainfield Police Department Chief William G. Parenti announced that Wal-Mart of Watchung New Jersey presented a check to the North Plainfield Police Department for $1,000.00. Wal-Mart Manager Brenda Jarrell, informed us of the civic grant this morning. Wal-Mart has a program that encourages, through financial assistance “Safe Neighborhood Heroes.” Wal-Mart felt the work we are doing with the youth of North Plainfield qualified for the funds. ...read more
