North Plainfield Police Department Chief William G. Parenti October 13, 2006 North Plainfield Police Chief William Parenti announced that the identity of the pedestrian injured in a motor vehicle accident on Saturday night in North Plainfield has been positively determined. On Saturday, September 30, shortly after 11:00 pm, an adult male was struck by a motor vehicle at the intersection of Mountain Ave and Sanford Avenue in North Plainfield. The vehicle operator, a seventeen year old male North Plainfield resident has not been charged. The pedestrian was transported to Robert Wood Johnson Hospital where he has remained in serious condition; he is unable to communicate due to his injuries. He did not have identification with him at the time of the accident. Police began an intense effort to identify the person so that his family could be notified. Late Thursday night police received word that a potential family member had seen a flyer posted by police at Borough business. “All our efforts and legwork paid off”, Chief Parenti said. We had our walking patrols post flyers with a picture of the person in the business district and I thank the merchants for assisting us. Plainfield Police also lent a hand and posted fliers in their businesses. Police met with the individual who believed the person pictured in the flyer was his brother. North Plainfield Police Officers transported the man to Robert Wood Johnson hospital where he positively identified him as his brother. The pedestrian is Jose German Calderon, 22 years of age, and a resident of North Plainfield. I thank the media for their coverage and assistance during this process. We are pleased to have found a family member to assist this person during a difficult time Chief Parenti said. North Plainfield Police Dept. |
