Burglar Arrested

North Plainfield Police Department

June 11, 2008, Press Release

Chief William Parenti

North Plainfield Police Chief William Parenti announced that a burglar was arrested late Tuesday afternoon, June 10, 2008, while walking through the backyard of a borough residence.  Chief Parenti said a 14 year old resident of Westervelt Avenue called police yesterday at 3:00 pm when a subject knocked at his front door, and then walked around and jiggled the rear door.  The family dog began to bark and the male subject walked away.  The youth then alerted the police.  Police units responded to the neighborhood and Officer Ryan Mote spotted a subject matching the description in the backyard of a Watchung Avenue residence.

Officers detained Frederick Ebel, 37 years of age, of 318 Talmadge Avenue, Bound Brook.  He initially arrested at the scene for possession of CDS paraphernalia, and transported to Police Headquarters.  Subsequently, residents from two homes on Delacey Avenue and another resident from a home on Grandview Avenue contacted the Police Department.  Ebel was in possession of property that allowed Detective Tomasz Florek and Sergeant Robert Kurz to link him to the three reported burglaries.  This morning Detective Alex Kuga and Officer Joseph Mazza conducted another search of area backyards and recovered more stolen property.  The investigation remains open and ongoing at this time.

Ebel was incarcerated at the Somerset County Jail, pending the setting of bail on multiple counts of burglary, receiving stolen property, trespass, and possession of CDS paraphernalia.  Chief Parenti lauded the actions of an alert 14 year old borough youth, saying “the young man did a great job, his call led to the capture and arrest of a subject responsible for at least three burglaries”.

Note:  We are required by the Rules of Court to include herein a statement explaining that the charges are merely an accusation and that the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
