| Fall Leaf Clean-Up Help Available to Elderly and Disabled Residents Do you know an elderly or disabled person who needs help getting his or her yard ready for the winter months? The Somerset County Office of Volunteer Services will have volunteers available in November to rake leaves for elderly and disabled homeowners around the county who have no other means to do yard work. read more...

In this scam, which was first reported in 2005, the criminal calls your home pretending to be a court official. The criminal informs you in a threatening manner that there is a warrant for your arrest because you failed to show for jury duty. ...read more

| Somerset Street Improvements On or about September 15, 2007 Somerset County will begin construction on Somerset Street between Mountain Avenue and Summit Avenue. The project will consist of sidewalk and curb replacement, minor widening, and the installation of a traffic signal at the intersection of Mountain Avenue and Somerset Street. The existing traffic signal at Somerset Street and Greenbrook Road / Summit Avenue will also be replaced. Construction is expected to be complete on or before November 21, 2007. Questions should be directed to Joseph Fishinger of the Somerset County Engineer’s office at 908-231-7024.

week (08/24/2007). Residents should have them by Labor Day and will be due by September 21st. Taxes not
paid by that date will accrue interest from August 1.

| Friends of the North Plainfield Library Car Wash/Bake Sale a Huge Success Saturday, August 18 the Friends of the North Plainfield Library sponsored a car wash/bake sale to raise funds to benefit the Library. While teens from St. Joseph and the Library washed the cars in the parking lot, members of the Friends sold baked goods donated by other members to library patrons and those waiting for their cars. Used books were available free to anyone interested. The smiles of several very young patrons were payment enough for anyone. Every sector of the community participated including the businesses in the borough. The Latino Coalition presented the Friends with a generous check.

| From the Friends of North Plainfield Library... We are happy to announce that the Friends of the North Plainfield Library are alive and well! We have regrouped and are planning the following activities: Clean-up and spruce-up of the Library Grounds on June 23rd from 8am - 11am. Volunteers needed. We are a small and growing group. Help us expand and evolve! Our plans include a brand new sign for the library, a beautification project for the grounds (ideas welcome!) as well as some improvements to the inside of our Library!

| The Borough of North Plainfield Announces Code Online The Borough of North Plainfield has announced that the North Plainfield Borough Code is now available on the Internet. Borough residents have unlimited electronic access to the codified Borough ordinances. “The progressive North Plainfield governing body has provided the community with a very savvy e-technology tool” said Michelle Wood of Coded Systems. Coded Systems provides the ordinance codification and publishing services for the Borough of North Plainfield and many surrounding municipalities. “With simple and expert searches and the ability to print the text, residents can save time and money with just a click. Whether it’s a question on dog licensing or recycling, the answer can usually be found in the Code.”

| North Plainfield's 2007 Street Fair It is time to get ready for our 2007 Street Fair and we would like to invite you to participate! The Fair will be held on Saturday, June 9, 2007, from noon until 5pm. The Mayor’s Special Events Committee sponsors the Street Fair, which is an annual event. The Fair draws thousands of people from throughout Central New Jersey for an afternoon of games, shopping, food and fun. We also have the annual North Plainfield Lions Club Chili Cookoff Competition joining us again this year to help make for a terrific, delicious day! Attached you will find information on the Fair and an application. If you participated in the past, we thank you very much for your support and look forward to you joining us again this year. If you are new please join us and ‘welcome aboard’! We request that you pass this package on to your successor if you are no longer responsible for your organization’s involvement.
We do have a deadline shown on the application; however, we would appreciate receiving your application as soon as possible. This will help you in obtaining a spot of your choice; just as in previous years we will be using ‘first come, first serve’ when making location assignments.
