Police Arrest Juvenile in Connection with Small Fire at North Plainfield High School |

North Plainfield Police Department Chief William G. Parenti January 23, 2007 North Plainfield Police Chief William Parenti and Somerset County Prosecutor Wayne J. Forrest announced the arrest of a thirteen year old juvenile in connection with a small fire at the North Plainfield High School on Thursday, January 18, 2007. The fire occurred after school was dismissed for the day and quickly extinguished by school staff with a fire extinguisher. No one was injured in the incident and damage was limited to property in one locker. Police acted on information received from Board of Education personnel on Tuesday morning, January 23. The defendant was taken into custody and the matter was screened with the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office. The defendant was lodged in juvenile detention on charges of aggravated arson, reckless arson to a building and criminal mischief. Chief Parenti said: “this was an unusual event for the high school, no one was ever in danger and the matter was quickly concluded”. Note: We are required by the Rules of Court to include herein a statement explaining that the charges are merely an accusation and that the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
