North Plainfield Police Department Chief William G. Parenti December 27, 2006 Press Release Chief William G. Parenti announced the North Plainfield Police would be out looking for Drunk Drivers this holiday weekend. The holiday season is traditionally a time of social gatherings, which often include alcohol. New Years Eve carries an added risk of Driving While Intoxicated. Our goal is to arrest motorists who choose to drive while impaired by drugs or alcohol. Senior North Plainfield Police Officers recently attended the “Safe Passage Symposium”. Many topics were discussed and information shared to improve safe passage on New Jersey roads. The symposium was attended by many of the New Jersey’s most influential people when it comes to roadway safety, including Governor Jon Corzine, Attorney General Stuart Rabner and Director of the Law Enforcement Community Roberto Rodriguez . The New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police co-sponsored the program. “The law enforcement community of the state is devoted to eradicating impaired driving from our roads; North Plainfield has committed to assist in this effort Chief Parenti said.” Impaired drivers kill nearly 18,000 people on our nation’s roads each year. In New Jersey, 39% of motor vehicle fatalities are alcohol-related. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that nearly 97 percent of Americans view drinking and driving by others as a threat to their families and themselves. Indeed, Americans support tougher enforcement and rank drunk driving ahead of healthcare, poverty, the environment and gun control as an important social issue. Be responsible and don’t risk it ... you will be caught.
Have a Safe and Happy New Year! William G. Parenti
