Have you recently added a bathroom or done something that would significantly improve the value of your property? Are you worried that your taxes are going to go up as a result? Did you know that you can apply for “relief” from that increase for the next 3 years? That’s right. You can fill out a “tax abatement” application that requests that the assessor’s office allow you 3 years to enjoy your home improvements without the tax increase that would normally come with it. This is one way the Borough is trying to promote residents to improve their homes legally and safely—by taking out permits and doing inspections. Applications are available at the construction office (where you take out your permits) and on this website (where you can print them out and mail them in--click here). Applications must be handed in within 30 days of closing the permit. Once the application is filled out, it is sent to the ASSESSOR’s office for review and then must be approved by the Council. |
